Terms of Service
Last updated July 1, 2026
1. Acceptance of Terms
CaseLumen is operated by CaseLumen, LLC ("CaseLumen", "we", "us", or "our"). By accessing or using CaseLumen (the "Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use the Service.
2. Description of Service
CaseLumen is a legal practice management platform for law firms. It provides tools to manage intakes and cases, track deadlines and calendars, manage case financials and IOLTA trust accounting, integrate documents and calendars with your Microsoft 365 environment, and use optional AI-assisted features.
3. Accounts
You must register for an account to use the Service. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. You agree to provide accurate information and to keep it up to date.
4. Your Microsoft 365 Connection
CaseLumen's document and calendar features connect to your firm's own Microsoft 365 tenant using credentials you provide. You are responsible for your Microsoft 365 environment, its configuration, and its administration. Documents and calendar events created through CaseLumen are stored in your tenant; CaseLumen acts on your behalf and does not take custody of those files.
5. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of these Terms
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any part of the Service
- Upload or transmit malicious code or content
- Interfere with or disrupt the integrity or performance of the Service
- Share your account credentials with anyone outside your firm
6. Your Data and Confidentiality
You retain ownership of all data you enter or upload to the Service, and we act as a processor of that data on your behalf. We do not sell your data. Attorney-client privileged information you store in CaseLumen remains confidential and is not accessed by CaseLumen staff except as needed to provide technical support when you expressly authorize it. Our handling of your data is described in our Privacy Policy.
7. AI-Assisted Features
CaseLumen's AI-assisted features are a productivity aid for your attorneys and staff — they are not legal advice and do not create an attorney-client relationship with CaseLumen. AI-generated output may be incomplete or contain errors and must be reviewed by a qualified attorney before it is relied upon or filed. You are responsible for the final work product.
8. Subscription and Billing
Access to the Service requires a paid subscription after any applicable trial period. Subscription fees are billed in advance on a monthly or annual basis through our payment processor, Stripe. You may cancel your subscription at any time; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.
9. Data Retention on Cancellation
Upon cancellation, your firm's data is retained for 90 days, during which you may export it. After 90 days, your data may be permanently deleted. Because your documents and calendar already reside in your own Microsoft 365 tenant, they remain with you regardless of your CaseLumen subscription.
10. Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. CaseLumen is a software provider, not a law firm, and does not provide legal advice.
11. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, CaseLumen shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising out of or relating to your use of the Service.
12. Changes to Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms. We will notify account owners by email of material changes.
13. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in California.
14. Contact
Questions about these Terms should be sent to legal@caselumen.com.
